                                                                            Richard

                                                                            The Smile

Each joke video was drastically different due to the approach of the directors on each production in the group. Richard was scripted very well and has lots of potential, yet the quality of the characters and shots were not done in a well mannered cinematic technique. The line usage in Richard is particularly unseen by the viewer because of the OTS camera blocks most of how the female character's emotions are portraying throughout the seen. In the smile much of the line usage is prominent in each shot, as an example; when the character on the left takes a sip of the red koolaid, the lines behind her are all leading towards the koolaid and her head which is focused on in the ECU. The objective of both videos was to put blame on the innocent by the trickster who in actuality was at fault, yet subjectively  the character at fault was only trying to get out of the situation.
The rhythm of each of the videos took vastly different approaches as in establishing shots and two shots that were more focused on. The contrast in Richard was the OTS that gave a sort of ambiguous emotion towards in the females character because much of her face could not be seen in the OTS. The affinity is very pragmatic and from the perspective of the characters eyes, each character had their own OTS. The smile created more of a third person point of view because of the wide shots that were used. The rhythm was kept at a slow pace with a slower dialogue than Richard yet it is simple and gave more emotion and less confusion in the beat. In conclusion I find that The Smile is the more appealing video because it has more flow with the plot and characters which are easily understood, yet richard was more ethical and realistic because of the age of the characters. The line rhythm in Richard was weak and very limited because of the large background the cinematographer was dealing with. In contrast, The Smile kept the beat simple by having a white background where the characters and lines were used successfully in the encapsulation of each shot of the joke.

  1. I really like your group's second video joke. The opening scene is interesting and give me a sense of childhood and bicycle. Then the voice of these two characters are quite funny. It's fit the dialoge and the character's gesture. I like these videos, they are funny.
