Soundscape - Emotions

Soundscape Project for Media in the Creative Process. Rage

  1. After listening to Anthony's soundscape for the emotion "Rage" i was impressed with how well it encompassed the emotion. Starting with the heart beat in beginning, it gives you the feeling of being tense, and as you start to hear footsteps and then someone walking into what seems to be a fight club of sorts, you can start to feel the adrenaline pumping. The track becomes louder, with all sorys of gunshots, yelling, hitting and fighting going on. Through these sound effects, it manipulates the space of the track, giving you the feeling that a huge fight is going on around you, as punches come to your left and right, shots are heard in the background, and people are yelling from everywhere. And with the heart beat in the beginning, it references the persons rage, as their pulse is growing and the anger is rushing through their body. And through this manipulation, it paints an illusion of someone walking into a club or bar and just breaking down the whole place, somebody who is letting loose of all of the rage inside of them. Overall, it creates an intense and violent picture of someone’s rage, and does it very well.

  2. This soundscape actually made me feel rage. You did a great job of that. There was a definite sense of anger, and chaos. It sounded like a huge brawl in the crowd at a hardcore concert. As a listener, I definitely sensed an illusion of many sounds right when the bass-guitar started playing those chords. It sounded really loud and big, so I perceived that as many sounds layering over one another. However, upon the second time listening, I realized that the only noises were that of the bass, the crowd, and cracking knuckles. Still very chaotic and full of rage, but only three sounds gave the impression of chaos. I also noticed that space was explored in this soundscape with the use of panning of sounds. After the bass guitar stops playing, there is the sound of glass shattering, and some kind of bang. Both the shattering glass, and the bang are manipulated with echo and ear-to-ear panning. This gives the listener a sense of space that not everything is happening in one spot. It is refreshing to hear this because all the previous events in this soundscape are mostly concentrated in one place.

  3. Listening to this soundscape i immediately felt the emotion of rage. From the very beginning when the heart beat is pumping louder and louder it gives you the impression of depth as if the heart beat was coming closer to you. Immediately after the heartbeat is at its climax you hear sounds of a fight starting to get rowdy. There is a lot of yelling and you can hear this breaking. It sounds as if there is movement when the objects break as if there are breaking and the pieces are flying through the air. When the guitar kicks in about half way after it starts is seems as though all hell breaks loose. The are guns shots and bodies dropping to the ground some sound as if they are falling close to you and other sound as if they are falling further away. After all the chaos and build up of rage the guitar stop and you can hear breathing and glass still breaking. This really adds to the emotion of rage giving the listener a clear picture of rage to be visualized in their head.

  4. I strongly believe that Anthony captured the feeling of rage very well within this soundscape. This is captured by the use of different sounds like the heartbeat at the beginning and the heavy guitar towards the end. Anthony did a good job of manipulating the perception of depth in the soundscape by giving the audience the feeling that the heartbeat was getting closer. This was achieved by gradually increasing the volume of the heartbeat. Anthony also manipulated time in this soundscape by creating the image of someone walking into a bar or a club with the footsteps leading up to the door, the door opening, him walking in, and the door closing. This scene of events is in the right order to make the listener believe that there are actual things happening within the soundscape.
